Salat al-Kusuf: reviving the sunnah of the solar eclipse prayer

Tomorrow, Wednesday 12th August, the UK will witness a rare and deep partial solar eclipse insha-Allah, one of the most significant to be visible from the UK in decades.
The Prophet ï·º taught us how to respond to such signs from Allah:
“The sun and the moon are two signs of Allah… When you see an eclipse, pray and make du’a to Allah until it passes.”
Join us for Salat al-Kusuf (Jama’ah)
- Date: Wednesday 12th August 2026
- Time: 6:30pm
- Location: Zakariya Masjid
Luton Eclipse Timings
- Begins: 6:16pm
- Maximum: 7:12pm
- Ends: 8:05pm
This is a rare opportunity to revive a Sunnah many of us may never have had the chance to practise. Rather than simply watching the eclipse, let us turn to Allah through salaah, du’a, dhikr, and istighfaar.
A Note on Eye Safety
Never look directly at the sun. Ordinary sunglasses are not sufficient protection — only certified eclipse glasses or a safe indirect viewing method should be used.
